  2. The sheet · 1 min

A zoom on one part of the sheet.

  3. Explain · 2 min

    What plants take in

    • Sunlight is absorbed through the green leaves.
    • Water comes up from the soil through the roots.
    • Carbon dioxide enters through tiny holes called stomata.
  4. Explain · 2 min

    The role of chlorophyll

    • Chlorophyll is the green pigment in leaves.
    • It captures the energy in sunlight.
  5. Did you know? · 1 min

Almost all the oxygen in the air you breathe was made by photosynthesis.

  6. Questions with the cards · 3 min
    • How does carbon dioxide get into a leaf? A) Through the roots B) Through tiny holes called stomata C) Through the flowers D) Through the soil. Answer: B) Through tiny holes called stomata. Carbon dioxide enters the leaf through the stomata.
    • What does chlorophyll do? A) It captures light energy B) It stores water C) It makes the roots grow D) It turns into soil. Answer: A) It captures light energy. Chlorophyll is the green pigment that captures the energy in sunlight.
    • What does the plant make from sunlight, water and carbon dioxide? A) Salt and iron B) Glucose and oxygen C) Only water D) Smoke. Answer: B) Glucose and oxygen. The plant makes glucose, a sugar, and releases oxygen into the air.
  7. True or false, stand up · 2 min
    • Plants take in water through their leaves. Answer: False. Water comes in from the soil, through the roots.
    • Glucose can be stored as starch. Answer: True. The plant keeps glucose it does not use as starch.
  8. Put in order · 2 min

    Put the steps in order

    1. The plant takes in sunlight, water and carbon dioxide
    2. Chlorophyll captures the light energy
    3. The plant makes glucose
    4. Oxygen goes out into the air
  9. Match the pairs · 2 min

Match each word to what it means

    • Stomata: Tiny holes in the leaf
    • Chlorophyll: The green pigment
    • Glucose: A type of sugar
  10. Hidden word · 1 min

The gas plants give out and we breathe in. Answer: Oxygen

  11. Talk about it · 3 min

How would life on Earth change without photosynthesis? I think... Because...

  12. Calm minute · 1 min

Breathe in slowly, like a leaf taking in the air.

  13. Exit question · 2 min

Name one thing a plant needs to make its food.

What is a VisualNote lesson for the interactive whiteboard?

It is a lesson your class plays on the interactive whiteboard, made from one page of your notes in about a minute. VisualNote draws the notes as a sheet, splits it into its parts and builds slides from it: explanations, questions with A, B, C, D cards, a game, a talk question and a calm minute. Add more of the 11 slide types with a tap, edit any slide, or ask Noty.

From a page of notes to the board

  1. A note drawn by VisualNote as one sheet: photosynthesis in six numbered parts

    Make a note

Paste your notes, upload a PDF or take a photo of the textbook page. VisualNote draws it as one clear sheet.

  2. The lesson setup page: the slide list, the slide on the stage and its edit popup

    Turn it into a lesson

Open Lesson on the board. The sheet is split into its parts and a lesson of slides is ready to edit.

  3. The demo lesson on the board, ready to play in full screen

    Play it on the board

Full screen on the interactive whiteboard or the projector. The class answers with cards, by standing up, or out loud.

Eleven kinds of slide, all made for the front of the room

Every slide tells the class what to do in big letters, keeps its own time, and works with a tap on the board.

  • The sheet: Photosynthesis

    The sheet

The whole drawing, a spotlight on one part, a zoom, or the parts covered so the class tries to remember them.

  • Explain: Photosynthesis

    Explain

A title, three short points and the part of the sheet they come from.

  • Did you know?: Photosynthesis

    Did you know?

One surprising fact, big enough to read from the back row.

  • Questions with the cards: Photosynthesis

    Questions with the cards

Questions with A, B, C, D answers. Pupils raise a printed card, you show the answer.

  • True or false, stand up: Photosynthesis

    True or false, stand up

Stand for true, stay seated for false. The whole class answers at once.

  • Put in order: Photosynthesis

    Put in order

The class calls out the order, you tap it in, then the right order appears.

  • Match the pairs: Photosynthesis

    Match the pairs

Join each item on the left to one on the right, then check the pairs.

  • Hidden word: Photosynthesis

    Hidden word

A clue and a word hidden letter by letter, uncovered one tile at a time.

  • Talk about it: Photosynthesis

    Talk about it

A question on one part of the sheet, sentence starters and a timer for pair talk.

  • Calm minute: Photosynthesis

    Calm minute

Breathe, write, check: a quiet minute to settle what was learned.

  • Exit question: Photosynthesis

    Exit question

One question to answer before the bell, on paper or out loud.

Change any slide yourself, or ask Noty

Every slide opens in a popup you can edit: the text, the minutes, the part of the sheet, your own notes. Or tell Noty, the assistant beside the slides, what you want in plain words, and undo it with one tap if you do not like it.

Add a hidden word about oxygen before the talk slide

The lesson setup page with the slide list, the slide on the stage and Noty's chat on the right

Built for a real lesson, not a slideshow

  • A pen on every slide

Write and draw over the slide with your finger. The marks go when you move on.

  • Draw a number

Picks a number from the class list at random, so the same hands are not always up.

  • Timers that ring softly

Each slide has its minutes. You can always move on sooner.

  • Rehearse before class

Run the lesson on your own screen with every button explained. Nothing is saved.

  • Share it with pupils

One link for the class: pupils save the lesson as a read only copy in their own account and go over it at home.

Try three lessons a month for free

The visual of a note is drawn once. The lesson on top of it is ready in about a minute, and you can open it as often as you like.

  • Free3 new lessons a month, 10 messages a day to Noty. Opening a lesson you already made never counts.
  • Plus, $13.99 a monthUp to 10 new lessons a day, Noty without a daily limit, plus everything else in VisualNote AI.
  • Pictures on requestA slide can get its own drawn picture. Each one uses 1 visual, and Noty asks before it draws.

Questions teachers ask

Does it work on a SMART Board, Promethean or any smartboard?

Yes. The lesson runs in the browser, in full screen, on any interactive whiteboard or smartboard (SMART Board, Promethean and the others), touch screen or projector. There is nothing to install: open VisualNote on the classroom computer and press play.

How long does it take to prepare a lesson?

About a minute once the sheet of your note is drawn: it is split into its parts and turned into slides. Then change what you want, or ask Noty to do it.

Do my pupils need an account?

Not in class. They answer with printed A, B, C, D cards, by standing up or out loud. If you share the lesson, pupils who want to go over it at home save it in their own account.

Can I start from my own material?

Yes. Start from your notes, a PDF, a photo of a textbook page or a web page. The lesson follows what is on the sheet, and every slide can be edited.

Which languages does the board speak?

The language of the note: English, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese or French. The questions, the instructions on screen and the end of the lesson all follow it.
