The Exam in VisualNote AI: Noty as the teacher next to question 1 of 5 on what a p-value tells you, the student's typed answer marked 8/10, almost complete, with two points that were right, one that is missing, and the full answer

How the Exam works

  1. Pick a note or a notebook

Start the Exam on one note, or on a whole notebook the week before the test. No notes open, no pasting, about 10 minutes.

  2. Answer typed or out loud

The first question is broad. The next ones follow up on what you just said, and at least one asks you to connect two topics.

  3. Get a mark per answer

Each answer gets a mark out of 10, what was right, what is missing, a correction and the full answer. 6 is a pass.

The Exam asking question 2 of 5, a follow-up on the student's previous answer about p-values, with Noty listening, the answer box half typed and the Talk, Answer and I don't know buttons
Follow-up questions

It asks about what you actually said

Like a real oral, the questions are open and never multiple choice. Say a small p-value means the result is unlikely by chance, and the next question is: unlikely under which assumption? Press Talk and answer out loud on the bus; your speech is transcribed and the recording is not kept.

The end of the Exam: Noty celebrating, 7.5/10 passed, marks topic by topic with Errors and alpha at 5.5 in red, a line saying one topic comes back tomorrow in Today, and the buttons to make the reinforcement or take another exam
After question 5

A mark per topic, and the weak one comes back

At the end you see your overall mark and one for every topic. Anything under 6 becomes review cards in Today, so it comes back before the real oral. After an exam on a note you can ask for up to 4 extra lesson parts on the topics you missed.

Today tells you when to run a practice exam

Give a notebook an exam date and Today counts down the days with a pace to keep. A practice Exam shows up 7 days before the test, or once you finish every lesson in the notebook. On a whole notebook, the questions go across every page.

What the free plan gives you

The free plan includes 1 Exam a day, on a note or a whole notebook, with the full marking for every answer. Reviews, Today and your streak are free too, and so is the first lesson of your study path. Plus ($13.99 a month or $79.99 a year) takes away the daily count on Exams (fair use).

Questions students ask

How does the AI mock oral exam work?

You start the Exam on a note or a notebook, and Noty, as your teacher, asks 5 open questions one at a time. The first is broad, then it follows up on your answers and asks at least one question that connects topics. It takes about 10 minutes, with no notes open and no pasting.

Can I answer out loud instead of typing?

Yes. Press Talk and answer the way you would in front of the teacher; your speech is transcribed and the recording is not kept. Spoken answers work in English, Italian, Spanish, French, Portuguese and German.

How are my answers marked?

Each answer gets a mark out of 10 (out of 20 for French users), what you got right, what is missing, a correction and the full answer. The pass mark is 6. Topics under 6 become review cards in Today.

Can it make practice exam questions from my own notes?

Yes, your notes are where the questions come from. Add them as text, a PDF, a photo, a YouTube link or a web page, then run the Exam on that note or across every page of a notebook. The questions follow the language of your notes.

Is the practice exam free?

Yes, the free plan includes 1 Exam a day, no credit card. Plus, at $13.99 a month or $79.99 a year, takes away the daily count (fair use) and opens every lesson whole.
