Google renamed NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook in July 2026; it is the same product. It is a research notebook that can also make an infographic. VisualNote AI is a visual note maker that can also make flashcards and quizzes. They overlap in the middle, and most of this page is about that middle.

NotebookLM (now Gemini Notebook) is Google's source-grounded notebook. You add up to 50 sources on the free tier, including PDFs, web pages, YouTube links, audio and images, and ask questions that come back with citations. Its Studio panel generates audio and video overviews, mind maps, reports, flashcards, quizzes, slide decks and an infographic with preset styles, one of which is called Sketch Note.
VisualNote AI turns one source into one drawn page. Paste text, upload a PDF, drop a link or a YouTube video, or photograph handwritten notes, pick one of 40 styles, and the visual arrives in about 30 seconds with written notes, flashcards, a mind map and a quiz from the same material. If a label is wrong or something is missing, you say so in chat and it redraws.

Key Differences
The honest headline: NotebookLM's free tier is bigger than ours, and for research it is the better tool. Fifty sources, cited answers, audio overviews. We do not try to compete with that, and if your problem is reading and questioning a pile of papers, use it.
The difference shows up when the visual is the thing you need. In NotebookLM the infographic is one output among ten. You choose from a short list of styles, wait up to a couple of minutes, and get a flat PNG. Google's help page says the only actions afterwards are rename, download, share and delete, and warns that infographics may contain visual or factual inaccuracies. When that happens you regenerate the whole thing. In VisualNote AI you type what is wrong and only that changes.
The second difference is the path. NotebookLM asks you to create a notebook, add sources, open Studio and choose an output. VisualNote AI has one box: paste, pick a style, done. For tonight's lecture notes, that matters more than it sounds.

Use NotebookLM (Gemini Notebook) to research and question your material; nothing here replaces it for that. Use VisualNote AI when the page itself is what you will study from or share, and you want to choose its style and fix its mistakes. Plenty of people will use both: the notebook to understand, the visual to remember.
